--><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"191\" height=\"191\" src=\"https:\/\/laurenhwhite.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/bao-express-paris-restaurant-interior-atelier-amo-sq_dezeen_2364_col_1-191x191-1.jpg\" class=\"excludeLightbox wp-post-image\" alt=\"Bao Express restaurant in Paris by Atelieramo\" data-pin-nopin=\"true\" \/><\/p>\n<div class=\"related-in-article-text\">\n<h1>Read:<\/h1>\n<h2>Traditional Hong Kong diners inform interior of Bao Express in Paris<\/h2>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/a><br \/>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/article>\n<\/aside>\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s a palette straight out of Hong Kong&#8217;s neon nights: colours that don&#8217;t just sit on the walls but glow and shift with the light,&#8221; she added.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;With the neon, the reds get deeper, the greens punch harder, and the whole place hums with a sexy glow.&#8221;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_2237613\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2237613\" style=\"width: 1773px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-2237613 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/laurenhwhite.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/bun-house-disco-z-he_dezeen_2364_col_5-scaled-1.jpg\" alt=\"Striped banquette seating\" width=\"1773\" height=\"2364\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-2237613\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Metal chairs sit next to a striped banquette<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Inside Bun House Disco, simple metal and wooden chairs are combined with striped banquette seating, a canteen-style red floor and stripped-back walls.<\/p>\n<p>These industrial details were juxtaposed with glazed green-and-white tiles at the entrance to the restaurant.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The base is raw \u2013 concrete, exposed steel, tough finishes \u2013 but we inserted materials that don&#8217;t traditionally belong in such a setting,&#8221; He said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The most prominent example is the Shiwan-glazed ceramic lace window tiles at the entrance, handmade in collaboration with a master from my hometown in Guangdong.&#8221;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_2237599\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-2237599\" style=\"width: 1773px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-2237599 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/laurenhwhite.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/bun-house-disco-z-he_dezeen_2364_col_23-scaled-1.jpg\" alt=\"Detail of bar at London restaurant\" width=\"1773\" height=\"2364\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-2237599\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Neon lights evoke Hong Kong nights<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The designer wanted the space to have a mix of &#8220;hard and soft, old and new&#8221;, with decorative details including a disco ball and &#8220;perfectly imperfect&#8221; colourful paper lanterns.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I found them years ago at the back of an Asian grocery store in America, shoved on a dusty shelf,&#8221; she said. &#8220;They cost next to nothing, but they were gold to me.
